Gaps - Though the wildlife resources of Ethiopia are splendid, different factors have caused a considerable destruction of habitats, thereby leading to the extermination of species from many areas of the country. The reasons for these are:

  • an ever increasing human population and its consequences;
  • lack of conducive mechanisms for public participation;
  • poaching, livestock encroachment, settlement and agricultural expansions;
  • inadequate financial and logistical supports;
  • insufficient information and lack of updated data on wildlife resources of the country;
  • inadequate law-enforcement mechanisms;
  • low awareness about the values of wildlife;
  • unstable institutional arrangements;
  • and inadequate land use policy.
